Showing up.

One of the biggest changes sobriety has brought into my life is the ability to truly show up for people.
When I was drinking, I often made promises I couldn’t keep. My focus was on getting through the day, hiding my struggles, and cleaning up the messes I created. I wasn’t always available when people needed me because alcohol came first.
Today, things are different.
Today, I answer the phone. I return calls. I keep my word. I show up for my family, my friends, the people I sponsor, and anyone reaching out for help. Being sober has given me the opportunity to be dependable, present, and available to others in a way I never could before.
The people who helped me get sober showed up for me when I needed it most. Now it’s my turn to do the same for others.
That’s one of the reasons I believe so strongly in normalizing sobriety. Recovery isn’t something to hide. It’s something to be proud of. Every time we share our story, support another person, or live openly in recovery, we show the world that sobriety is possible and that a better life exists.
The world has normalized drinking for long enough.
It’s time to normalize sobriety.
